Staying in the Magic

Romance and Relaxation

If the main attractions of Walt Disney World are the theme parks, the resorts follow closely on thier heals as attarctions in and of themselves.  Disney has extended their fantastic brand of magic to the hotles they operate right on the property.  Many are wildly romantic and have as many wonderful activities for couples as the parks.

In this area we will discuss some of these activities.  The great thing about hem is that you don't have to be a guest at the resort to enjoy many of them.   As our research broadens we will, of course add more romantic and exciting adventures.

Just click on the resort you would like to learn about and off you go!

Wilderness Lodge Boardwalk Coronado Springs

Wilderness Lodge

The first thing one notices when they enter the lobby of the Wilderness Lodge is its immense size. By all measures it is huge. After the initial awe of its size wears off you notice the wonderful décor. Everything is reminiscent of the old National Park lodges right down to the lodge pole pines of the ceiling supports. The rugs all have a southwestern flair and the furniture is rustic and comfortable. Ahead and to the left is an enormous, log-burning fireplace with chairs pulled up to it. This is a wonderfully romantic place to sit and talk over the day’s events. To the right is a bubbling spring right inside the lobby with a brook that flows out the lobby’s back wall and into the courtyard area.

One of the most romantic and beautiful walks that Walt Disney World has to offer is through the courtyard of the Wilderness Lodge. The brook that flows from the springs in the lobby becomes a mountain stream here, flowing through boulders and mountain flowers, pine trees and rugged brush. The stream tumbles over a waterfall as the walkway leads you through a small archway of rock. Finally the stream flows in to the resorts swimming pool which is themed as a mountain pool complete with thermal spring fed hot tubs and a geyser that erupts periodically.

Beyond the pool area is a series of wooden walkways that allow you to stroll through cool fern-floored forests. The atmosphere is definitely romantic as you walk hand-in-hand past the geyser and along the lake-fronted area. If you wish you can catch a launch at the dock along the lake and take a romantic cruise to the Magic Kingdom.

We suggest you try this walk at night around 8:30, or just about a half-hour before the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom. Leisurely walk the path of the courtyard to the dock. Get on a launch about 5 minutes before the fireworks are scheduled to start. Ask the captain if they will stop the boat for the fireworks, some will and some wont. Sit in the front of the launch, cuddled up with your loved one for a truly romantic and magical ride. This has to be one of the most romantic activities in Walt Disney World, particularly on starry, moonlit nights.

Coronado Springs

With theming based on the fictional Francisco de Coronado's travels from Northern Mexico to the American Southwest, Coronado Springs will bring forth the romantic explorer in you.   The buildings of this sprawling resort are highlighted by colorful plazas many with beautiful fountains, coroft.jpg (20329 bytes) palm-shaded courtyards, and a rocky shoreline surrounding a shimmering lake.

In the evenings the lake is a wonderful place to walk around, a paved path encircles the whole thing. As you stroll around the lake, hand-in-hand you will cross several bridges, including a pontoon bridge floating on the water and pass a sandy beach or two perfect for sitting and watching the stars with your loved-one. The sounds of the breeze in the trees and the water lapping gently against the shore are enough to make even the stuffiest person melt.

As you continue around the lake you will come to the elaborate pool. A Mayan pyramid complete with water coropool.jpg (21688 bytes)flowing down its steep front stairs towers over the pool area. For the adults there are hot tubs and even a poolside bar which serves an assortment of cool drinks. What could be better than sitting in the hot tub with a wonderful drink at one hand and your love at the other.

Dining options include the lively Pepper Market, a sort of open, food-court style restaurant serving southwest dishes, Asian stir-fry and Italian pizzas and subs. Also a full-service restaurant, The Maya Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in fine style.

Boardwalk

Reminiscent of the bed-and-breakfasts found along the mid-Atlantic coast, Disney’s Boardwalk Inn features shingled rooftops, private courtyards, and New England-style gardens. The lobby sports a spectacular chandelier of sea horses and below it a miniature reproduction of an old-time merry-go-round. The check-in building reminds one of a seaside inn complete with whitewashed walls, multi-paned glass windows and sweeping verandahs with wicker furniture on which to enjoy cool breezes

Nearby is Disney's BoardWalk, a waterfront village with dining, shopping, and entertainment along a lively promenade, recapturing the charm and flavor of the 1930s mid-Atlantic coast. Along the boardwalk you will find games of skill on which you could win a stuffed animal to impress your sweety as well as a number of vendors selling everything from ice cream cones to hair-wraps.

A wonderful way to spend an evening is to walk the boardwalk while gazing out over the water. Or rent a surrey bike, a multi-passenger, car-like pedal vehicle and ride it around the area. Sitting at a bench, watching the people pass as you snuggle up with your lover is also a favorite pass-time at Boardwalk.

Romantic tip: Drinks at the Belle Vue Room while sitting on the verandah overlooking the boardwalk off the main lobby.
