Canada

As you enter the Canada pavilion in Epcot the first thing you notice is the beautiful French provincial castle sitting atop a hill. then you begin to notice the other touches of the great white north, totem poles, rugged rock outcroppings and a gorgeous Victorian garden.

If a quiet walk among beautiful landscaping is what you crave after a day of county hopping, then Canada has the place for you. In the middle of a lush green lawn is a pond complete with a streaming fountain and surrounded by seasonal flowers. On a recent visit marigolds were everywhere, vividly coloring the garden with hues of orange and yellow. This is a wonderful spot to sit and talk of the exciting and romantic adventures you have had during the day.

When you walk deeper into the garden you pass the entrance to Le Cellier, Canada's upscale steakhouse restaurant, and begin to hear the crashing of rushing water. You notice that you seem to be entering a granite gorge and the walkway changes to a wooden plankway. The sound of rushing water alerts you to the fact that you are now in a beautiful recreation of a Canadian Rockies gorge complete with a towering waterfall and lovely pine trees clinging to the jagged stone walls. The falling and rushing water has a wonderful invigorating effect that makes the little walkway in front of the waterfall a perfect spot to steal a smooch or two from your sweetie.

The movie housed behind the waterfall in a replica of an old gold mine is a beautiful and inspiring look at our neighbors to the north. The scenes of the snow-covered, winter-wonderland are perfect for snuggling with your lover and whispering your wishes to make snow angels together.

France

As you cross the recreation of the Seine river the sights and sounds of France reveal themselves to you. Along the sidewalks artists can frequently be found sketching characitures and the scent of fresh baked goods wafts through the air. The sounds of a splashing, lively fountain reach your ears as you move deeper into the pavilion.

Before you is a twisting street, lined with shops selling French wines, perfumes and even art. Several of the shops have charming upper stories, fashioned to look like libraries or studies, that overlook the fountain and hedges trimmed to resemble a flor-de-lis. The buildings feel old and have a warmth and charm that is distinctly French.

Towards the back of the area, at the end of one of the winding streets you will find the entrance to Impressions de France, a breath-takingly beautiful cinemagraphic trip through the French countryside. Included in this trip are awe inspiring looks at many French castles and chateaus, a look at working French vineyards and a ride up the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Don't miss the drawings and notes in the display cases n the lobby of the movie with depictions of the magnificent Notre Dame.

A popular shop in this area is the bakery. Long lines form outside as people wait their turn to ogle and choose the multitude of baked goods. Pastries, cheese cake and croissants are accompanied with strong coffees or Perrier water in this shop. An even better choice may be to cross the cobblestone street and get a glass of wine to enjoy with your treat.

With pastry and wine in hand sit at one of the many benches facing the fountain with your loved one and enjoy the ambiance and each other's company. This is a wonderful place to have dessert after dining at one of Epcot's many restaurants, to sit and talk while you wait for Illuminations to begin.
